80% of our business is the commercial cattle breeder, so we have to make sure we have a product that meets his demands. Our cattle need  to function and reproduce in a manner that works for us and for our region of Montana. We use time proven and tested genetics in conjunction with a "low input" feeding program. Anybody can feed grain to a bovine and make it look it's best and then force it onto an unsuspecting customer - "but you'll be short lived in the seed-stock business"! The "ONE THING" we can still hang our hat on today (and yet is in very short supply) is the "great maternal Shorthorn cow". But she still needs to be supported by great (beefy) bulls that can reproduce "great maternal cows" (full circle).    

          

Our Program

We have focused on this for over five decades, and yes we've pursued various genetics that have "hit the scene" - and they usually force "themselves" into being culled. We have always resorted back to line breeding to genetics that we know and trust.

The only time we'll feed an animal some grain is just before the show ring. Yes, that's right I said "show ring". We still show cattle after 35 plus years, because that's how we attract our commercial buyer, and that's what the "state fair" was supposed to do - "and we have a lot of fun doing it".
